Thanks, I like it and have no regrets but I now have a learning curve with regards to a diesel truck.

Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
I probably wont be able to get back to the truck until late May due to work and resurrecting my shop. However, I have been thinking about the steering column and shifter. I had made up my mind that I was going to use a column mounted shifter but am not rethinking it; my other 2 options are:
1) use some type of floor mounted unit like that offered by Lokar
PRO - looks cool
CON - very expensive for what you get and does limit space somewhat in the cab
2) build a console and use a cable operated shifter
PRO - I already have the shifter from another project / gives the truck a stretrod flair
CON - takes up a lot of space and doest look all that great without a whole interior make over
So, once again I am undecided but leaning toward to column shift.

Wow I like that.
Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
it was a decent deal and if it works as advertised it should be awesome. I am beginning to learn that having quality tools leads to quality results. I recently bought an expensive hydraulic tubing flare tool; I have made many flares (both 45 and 37) with other cheaper tools without incident, but this hydraulic one makes perfect flares every time. Same issue with my welders, I have had several cheaper MIG welders, but once I bought a Miller I never looked back, now I have 3 of them (2 x MIG and 1 x TIG).

Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
So, I got home and the blast cabinet arrived. The packaging/crating was excellent. Upon opening it all up I discovered the "made in china" sticker and instructions that looked a lot like HF crap... the overall design is nice, but the instructions suck. It has a top mounted light (florescent), but the design of that piece is a pain. they integrated the light with a valve to switch between the gun and the fixed blasting head. the problem is that there are fittings that have to screw through the cabinet to the valve, therefore you have to disassemble all of that should you ever have to change the light bulbs; very dumb... therefore, today me and my trusty body saw are going to change that... separate the light fixture from the valve apparatus.

of course, I guess we are all somewhat like "Tim Taylor"... got to "improve" everything... In this case I did, I cut the top cap that contained the lights and the valve. Got it muscled into the spot I wanted it and immediately took her for a spin. I have to say that the fixed nozzle and the gun are great features. I used the fixed one several times and the vacuum really works well; so all in all I am satisfied. it does have a small air leak at the foot pedal which is annoying; it used these push in connectors which are cool, but the one leaking seems defective. I tried cutting some of the hose off to square it and that didn't help. It isn't bad but as I said annoying.

Got the shock mounts made tonight, a lot of time but I think they will work pretty good. Now I have to get the bar welded in, then attach the mounts, then box in the frame and I will almost be done in the rear, at least for now. I will post pictures soon.

Ok, finally made some headway. I got the shock mounts made, cross member made, everything installed and the frame boxed in. Here are some pictures. [img][/img]
This is the top shock studs I decided to use, they are from the truck.

This is the lay out of the plates.

Here are the plates cut out, got to love a plasma cutter

Here one is mocked up.

Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
Well work has come calling once again, I am traveling beginning tomorrow until mid May. I have been working on the engine to get it buttoned up and ready; when I get back I will finish up the back end and then tear the front end off. My intent is to get this thing running and on the road this summer.

Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
Well it has been awhile since I was able to work on the 52, but fortunately I have been able to make some progress lately. I finished the rear suspension, well at least as much as I can right now. I have moved on to the front end. Today I removed the original flat 6 and trans, then chopped the front end off of both the 52 and the 88 Dak. I now have to figure out how to make all of that work out. I will post some pictures.

Rear end finished
[img][/img]
Hard to tell, but it is sitting about 5" lower in the rear now, just where I want it.
[img][/img]
I made a new rear cross member. the rear bumper will tie into this.

Parts coming together

The Dak is about 3" wider than the 52, but the inside is almost the same.

Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
I have a '55 C-3-B that in my dreams may also have a Hemi some day. Could the old fashioned pushbutton system be adapted. They were used on Torqueflites from the mid 50's to the early 60's. The later versions included a separate lever to engage Park.

Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
I had thought about this and if you read my thread on the HAMB, you will see it discussed (52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project). Basically it could be done but would be a PITA. I decided to go with a 727 and a column shift for a variety of reasons, not the least o which is that I have one. I do have the original trans that was behind the hemi that was pushbutton, but to be honest I didn't want to spend the $$ to have it rebuilt.

Re: 52 Dodge B3B Hemi Project
Progress is a little slow but it is moving. Trying to get the front clip lined up and positioned correctly. I hope to have that done this week so I can begin to box it all in and get moving on.
