RAPID'S 58 BIG WINDOW
ok this is my 58. i bought the cab and doors on ebay a few years ago. when it arrived at my door i was impressed with how nice and solid she was. a few weeks later there was a sweptline box on ebay. it was for a 1960 it was just what i wanted. it arrived. and again nothing to be disappointed about. in the same fashion along came a couple fenders. then a hood, a grille and radiator support. all were from different listings and several weeks and sometime months apart. within 5 months i had collected the entire body. now i needed a frame. on the local craigslist i came across a 1992 extended cab dakota, with a 5.2 magnum and overdrive automatic transmission. i went and purchased that. and i was all set

Re: RAPID'S 58 BIG WINDOW
since the frame had the long extended cab wheelbase i had to cut the excess amount out of it and pull it back together.

Re: RAPID'S 58 BIG WINDOW
pillars are welded solid. next i'll make a filler for the roof, and put the door frames back together.

That back window wont work out for you. It is tempered glass and any cut to it or damage will make it shatter. You will have to go with a Lexan window. Nice thing is you can sell the original for enough to pay for the Lexan window and probably have a little left over. Good luck with it

PPG does still carry this window. It was listed as a DW425 but they have started reusing the numbers for newer vehicles. When you order let them know it is an old number Domestic window 425 (clear, tinted or shaded) Expect around $500 bucks for new. List in Canada is over 700 but nobody pays list. (windshield was offered in Dodge from 56 to 71 I believe. but just big trucks after 60

Re: RAPID'S 58 BIG WINDOW
Sorry, that last statement of mine did sound a bit down. There are other ways as you state. I have seen a slot cut in the bottom of the window hole and the window slid down into it to the correct height and supported with stops. Could be done with the rubber hiding the modification.
There are always ways around things, its just a matter of "do we want to go there"
I'm sure it will look great when done and I am looking forward to updates.
I can sound gloomy sometimes... just ignore me, it works for my wife.
