46 dodge 4X4 custom
Hi guys! Thought I would start populating the projects area with my 1946 Dodge WF32 on a 1985 Ranger Chassis.
Here is the chassis.
This is the jig I put together to get the cab mounts located.
Putting the cab on with the cherry picker lift.

relocated the engine
The water pump pulley would have touched the radiator so it needed to go back.
Here it is 4 3/8 inches back.

Shifter work
The shifter was a little low for my taste.
I added some tubing in two places to make it feel right.

Pedals
The rubber was wore off the pedals. I took some scrap pieces of diamond plate to make them better.
They look pretty good hanging there.

The gauges were fitted with the ranger units except the amp gauge. I don't like them and used more diamond plate to make a bracket for the volt gauge.
I picked up some explorer wheels and modified the center cap for the lock outs.
The beads are rolled on the floor piece, toe board is next.
Got the exhaust hooked back up. Put on a new Smithy muffler.

Put the alternator and brackets back on. Also fit a new shorter belt.
Power steering pump too.
Got the steering hooked up with new u-joints at the column and steering gear.
Master cylinder is mounted. The clutch location landed on the firewall rib. That may need to be trimmed out.
That is about where I am at in the process. Going to try and fit the Ranger wiring harness back in.

Got the wiring harness off the bench and mounted in the truck.
Next up getting it all connected. Still trying to figure out where I'm going to put the battery.

Got rid of the stock air cleaner in favor of this Chevy hubcap. Had an old 9" filter base on the shelf and found this new K&N filter on Amazon for $16 shipped.
Made a bracket for the Ranger cigar lighter. Found some nice indicator lights at NAPA.
Mounted the volt gauge, ignition and headlight switches. Can't remember where the ignition switch came from, but it has a GM square key with an IH logo.
Driveshaft is shortened and reinstalled.
Got the windshield to open a little bit.
Took a spare windshield mechanism and got it working again. It needed some teeth filed to work smoothly.
Was hoping the drop down battery box would show up this morning, but UPS has had it in Illinois since Friday.

Re: 46 dodge 4X4 custom
Welded up the brackets for the running boards today. 1X2 channel steel, idea stolen from someones Plymmie truck build.
They might be an inch long, step stool is the right height for mock up.
Got the stuff from Dodge of Central Michigan to rebuild the cowl lights. All new lenses and innerds, now they will function as turn signals as well as marker lights.

Got some original style mirrors
Picked up an Explorer 8.8 and Dana 35 (way more heavy duty)
Stripped the rear frame, getting new brackets. The old ones were froze solid.

Re: 46 dodge 4X4 custom
Got the 8.8 installed, mostly. Still need to weld on the shock mounts.
All the brackets were bad. Used the spring pack out of the explorer.
Dana 35 is ready to go in.
Found a place for the ranger horns.

hunting down parts and finding out what works is half the fun. i like your enthusiasm
Re: 46 dodge 4X4 custom
Today was productive. 8 hours of shop time and stripped the Dana 28 out, put in the Dana 35 and added a helper leaf on each of the rear springs.

Shop-cation week update
Got a few non-picture things accomplished, welded the shock mounts to the rear axle, put a flange on in place of the yoke on the transfer case and installed an explorer driveshaft (bigger u-joints than the ranger), Found a molded lower radiator hose (waiting on a 3" extension tube from Jeg's to complete).
Decided to make my own headlight relay kit. Probably saved $10 plus shipping. Also added a buss bar on each side, so the fenders can come off easily.
Picked up receiver hitch for an explorer off the local auction site for $1.50. Narrowed it up 8 1/2 inches and fits nice.
Except for bolts this bumper is all from the scrap pile.
This license plate bracket is 1/8" from the scrap pile too. It will be welded under the bumper.

Re: 46 dodge 4X4 custom
I've been working. Dad bought a car trailer to haul his tractors to the farm show and I'm helping get that spruced up and brakes on his WD Allis Chalmers (they're a 8!+ch).
The trailer came in rusty black with beat fenders. After a few weeks its almost done.
Also been doing a little work on the truck, painted some interior trim and the dash. I used rustoleum brown hammer finish.
